Palliative care specialists, relatively new players on the health care scene, offer comfort, support, pain control and, if requested, spiritual counsel, helping them sort through often confusing and ambiguous medical options. Unlike hospice care, which requires patients to forgo aggressive medical care, palliative care allows patients to continue any level of medical care they desire.
