Sweden has officially joined the list of countries that allow euthanasia under certain circumstances. Sweden does not allow active euthanasia and that stance remains, but a patient who wants to terminate treatment has the right to do so, provided that he or she understands doctors' information about the consequences. Alex Schadenberg, the Executive Director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, told LifeSiteNews.com that despite media reports to the contrary [such as the one above], Sweden is not permitting passive euthanasia by allowing a respirator to be turned off, “but rather allowing a medical condition to cause the death of the person. The confusion that continues to be generated by the improper use of the term euthanasia only creates a further confusion about what euthanasia is and why it always represents a threats the lives of vulnerable people.”
