But specialists say that the nation's best-known suicide doctor did not provide a dignified death to those who sought him out and didn't do enough to refer people to hospice organizations that could have alleviated their suffering. 'I believe he could have taken his empathy, sympathy and compassion and led people to resources that could have ended in a more dignified death,' said Laura Wagner, chief hospice officer for Great Lakes Caring.
